IN ITALY WE RUN LIKE THIS

It is not unusual for Italian running events to have the Bersaglieri, a high-mobility light infantry unit of the Italian Army, preceed the race start. Since the creation of the unit in 1836, their distinctive trait is that they run all the times instead of marching. The Bersaglieri run both on parade and during barracks duty (to avoid punishment). They can be recognized by the wide brimmed hat decorated with black feathers (they even wear the feathers on their combat helmets). Each Bersaglieri unit has a band called a "fanfara", who plays while running on parade.

WHERE TO RUN IN TORINO

Here is a simple course, going from the heart of Turin to the marvellous Palazzina di caccia in Stupinigi. The start is in piazza Solferino. Keep running straight along corso Re Umberto, corso Galileo Ferraris, piazzale San Gabriele da Gorizia, corso Unione Sovietica, and viale Torino until you reach the Stupinigi palace. The course is exactly 10 kilometers long (it has been certified by the international AIMS and IAAF measurers), it is completely flat and basically with no curves. This allows the course to be very fast and great to estabilish your personal best on the distance. In December this is the official course of the "TuttaDritta" run.

RUNNING SHOES REVIEW

PEARL IZUMI ROAD N2v2 - The N2 is Pearl Izumi's best selling shoe, so you know that updating it was a careful process. The closed mesh of the upper differs from round one slightly in the shape of the openings of the mesh, still breathable, as before, with a little give and stretch and with the same smooth interior. The no-sew overlays are splayed in a more weblike pattern along the saddle and the toecap is a bit smaller, but a solid film layer for better shaping and bonding at the toe. The midsole, while retaining the four millimeter offset and full-contact design, has been reconfigured with a taller top layer and a thinner but softer layer beneath the Strobel board. The feel is still quite firm and responsive but is a bit cushier as well. The outersole has more rubber, carbon in the heel blown rubber in the forefoot, with just a narrow strip of toughened foam in between, which trades a bit of extra weight for improved traction and durability. The N2v2 ends up as a successful update that fits well, breathes well, and rides well.

Testers: "A relatively light weight training shoe. The upper is comfortable with no high pressure areas and pretty smooth, almost plush. While a neutral shoe, I found them nicely stable."

Sizes: Men 8-12, 13, 14; Women 6-10
Weight: 10.9 oz. (men's size 11); 8.8 oz. (women's size 8)
Shape: semi-curved
Construction: Strobel slip-lasted, EVA Strobel board
Recommended for: medium to high-arched feet with neutral biomechanics to very mild overpronation
