My favourite course starts from the town of Vairano Patenora, in the Province of Caserta. Run for three kilometers along the main road to Pietravairano. Go through Pietravairano historic center (one kilometer) then continue running for about five kilometers on the dirt road that crosses Mount Caievola to return back to Vairano. Along the course there is a fountain and some stores with restrooms. The course is not suitable for disabled runners.
UNDER ARMOUR CHARGED BANDIT - The Charged Bandit is a bit of a hybrid in the Under Armour running line, with a more mainline approach than its siblings. Using a traditional construction approach, the upper is engineered mesh called Armour-Vent, with no-sew welded overlays lending structure and support (as well as prominently displaying the Under Armour logo). The midsole is a multidensity EVA, with an insert of Under Armour's Charged foam under the forefoot. A thermoplastic medial support lends a touch of stability to the ride, effective for minimal wobble (though for many that's enough), especially when it is coupled with full-contact geometry as it is here. If you are flat on the ground, it is hard to wobble. Add another layer of Charged foam in the insole that rides on top of an EVA Strobel board, and the package is complete. The full-contact outersole has been pared back, both saving weight and improving flexibility. The rubber compound is pretty sturdy - all the better to pile on the miles. Overall, the Charged Bandit is quite a good buy, delivering cushioning and durability.
Testers: "Fit was pretty good, room for the toes, and flexed well. Good cushion and pretty stable. They even look pretty decent."

DECEMBER 8 - The possibility of visiting the charming Como, on the Italian lake with the same name, while running a fun run comes with the Babbo Running, a 5k through the streets of the city center dressed up as "Babbo Natale" (the Italian name for Santa Claus). The Christmas costume is provided with the entry fee (15 euro). www.babborunning.it |
DECEMBER 13 - The Mezza Roma Run features a half marathon course on the river Tevere. Runners will run the loop four times, starting from Ponte Milvio, an economically and strategically important bridge in the era of the Roman Empire. Along with the 13.1 miles event, there is also a 10k and a 5k fun run. Part of the entry fees will be donated to the schools of Rome to teach traffic safety to kids. www.mezzaromarun.it |
DECEMBER 20 - The local running club organizes in Policoro, in the province of Matera, the Straherakleia half marathon. The town of Policoro is where the ruins of the ancient Greek colony of Herakleia are located: this was the city of Heracles, the divine hero in the Greek mythology. Called Hercules by the ancient Romans, he is famous for his strength and for his numerous legendary adventures (the so-called "Twelve Labours"). www.podisticapolicoro.org |
