IN ITALY WE RUN LIKE THIS

There is nothing worse than arriving at the starting line of an Italian running event and find out that all the cafes in the area are closed. But do not despair - one of the organizers brought his own espresso machine and started to sell coffee to the participants in search for the morning caffeine kick.

Have you ran in Italy? We want your stories!

RUNNING SHOES REVIEW

NEW BALANCE FRESH FOAM BEACON - The Fresh Foam Beacon is new shoe to the New Balance line, filling the slot previously occupied by the Fresh Foam Boracay. The upper is a seamless, closed mesh, with good flexibility and is roomy enough for a variety of feet. The midsole is slightly oversized and made of a very lightweight version of Fresh Foam, which offers great cushioning with good resiliency. Unlike its other brethren of the Max Midsole fraternity, the Beacon has quite good flexibility, which makes its ride much snappier than expected and ahead of the crowd in this group. The outersole is quite minimal with a little bit of rubber in the highest wear portions of the sole at the heel and ball, the remainder toughened foam, which is sufficiently durable for all but the hardest strikers. The light weight, excellent cushioning, and reasonable price make the Beacon a versatile training shoe that works well for high mileage, recovery runs, as well as faster running or even longer races.

Testers: "My first impression was how different they felt, and I have really come to like them. They are very versatile for any distance. They are extremely light, with a very comfortable upper, and the sole has a good amount of cushion."

RUNNING PRODUCT REVIEW

RUNBELL - Simply put, the Runbell is a proactive solution to a reactive issue. It is a two-finger fitness wearable, elegant in design and easy to use. You wear it on your middle and index finger and use your thumb to push down the striker to alert anyone in your way with a clear and loud ring. Outdoor sports like running, hiking, rollerblading, skateboarding, have tons of accessories, but none of these - until now - addressed the bigger question of safety. Forget having to yell again "On your left" startling a pedestrian and earning you a mean reaction or an angry glare - Runbell has an elegant sound that politely alerts people that you are passing. No shouting, no grunting. People don't like being yelled at. More so: yelling isn't safe, it's reactive. Runbell - the first proactive fitness wearable for pedestrian safety - after its successful crowdfunding campaign is now a must-have accessory for runners around the world, whether they are running on trails, paths, or paved roads.

THIS MONTH'S RECOMMENDED EVENT

JANUARY 20 - The castle of Monteriggioni itself, near Siena, is worth a trip to enjoy this incredible medieval walled town, let alone the possibility of running on the Via Francigena, the ancient road from Canterbury to Rome, that in the Middle Ages was the most important religious route for those wishing to visit the Holy See and the tombs of the apostles Peter and Paul. The occasion is offered by the race Sulle orme di Sigerico, a 20k event retracing part of the pilgrimage Sigerico, the Archbishop of Canterbury, made around 990 aD to receive his pallium. Shorter distances are also available.
