BROOKS PURE GRIT 8 - The Pure Grit has been the longest surviving representative of the Pure series, for one reason: versatility. Low-slung with a grippy outersole, characteristically the definition of a lightweight trail shoe, and round 8 even offers a few new additional touches. The upper is a closed mesh outer layer with an open mesh tongue and ankle collar. A moisture wicking lining, a thin layer of foam in the ankle collar, adds a little additional protection, and a great heel fit. Ghillie lacing and a bit of articulation in the saddle snugs the shoe onto the foot nicely. The toe has a thin thermoplastic cap and the outersole wraps up to safeguard against rocks. The midsole is the same consistent layer of single density EVA which makes them even suitable to roads and groomed trails. The outersole is a simple but effectively lugged pattern which flexes well, due to its thin layer of solid rubber, and provides good grip along with a solid measure of durability. The Pure Grit has always been a welcome addition to the trail running offerings from Brooks, and version eight is a contender for their best ever. Updates the Pure Grit 7.

MARCH 15 - The course of the Trailrun delle Vie Cave, held in Pitigliano, near Grosseto, will lead the participants through the typical landscape of this corner of the Maremma, the coastal area bordering the Tyrrhenian Sea between Tuscany and northern Lazio. Before being assimilated by the Romans, the Etruscan - a civilization present in Italy since 900 bC - hand carved roads in the tuff rock and developed major communication routes between their villages. The 21k race will run through these "canyons" - known as "vie cave" - for the delight of any passionate trail runner. www.ruotelibere.net |
