IN ITALY WE RUN LIKE THIS

Six hundred years ago, Venetians protected themselves from land-based attacks by diverting all the major rivers flowing into their lagoon and thus preventing sediment from filling the area around the city. Between autumn and early spring, Venezia is now often threatened by flood tides pushing in from the Adriatic sea. When this happens, events like the "Venicemarathon" offer participants a true running-like-a-local experience.

RUNNING SHOES REVIEW

THE NORTH FACE FLIGHT VECTIV - The marathon has gotten a lot of footwear attention in the last 20 months with more than two dozen shoes released by multiple brands. Now trail ultras are beginning to feel the love. Enter The North Face and their new Flight Vectiv with a different spin on the solution and a trail-ready design that is unique. The upper is a monosock of tough, knitted mesh, with a laminated midfoot saddle for support. It is both secure and breathable, with a snug but comfortable fit completing the package. The midsole is a stable, dual density polymer that is well suited to trails and durable for miles to run. The design also features a full length plate which rocks, literally, while doubling as rock protection, so now trail ultrarunners can get the benefits previously only afforded in the road "super shoes" (you could think of the Flyte Vectiv as a "super duper shoe"). The outersole is a toothy trail tread worthy of The North Face's standards. The Vectiv will get you to the finish line, provided you do your part, with room to spare.

Testers: "Great rocker, great tread, great shoe. I didn't think the road shoe phenomenon could cross over, but it's great it has!"
