RUNNING SHOES REVIEW

SKECHERS GORUN RIDE 8 HYPER - Skechers has established itself in performance running, and has gotten better with each round, stepping up technology and design. The GoRun Ride 8 Hyper continues the trend, offering top performance and aesthetics to the astute consumer. The upper is a knit construction which secures the heel with a smooth interior from front to back, with welded overlays at the eyestay, heel and forefoot vamp. The forefoot is snug, while providing a stretchy flex as the foot moves through toe-off, thanks to its knit design. The midsole is Skechers' new Hyperburst foam, which is resilient and durable enough to handle your highest mileage. The outersole is a compound from Goodyear, which delivers good traction and long distance durability. The sum is surprisingly greater than its parts, which adds up to excellent performance and value. Updates the GoRun Ride 7.

Testers: "Well cushioned, a little firm, but protective. Tough enough for daily training and light enough for longer races."

THIS MONTH'S RECOMMENDED EVENT

FEBRUARY 23 - Be close to where Italian history happened when running the Trofeo podistico garibaldino, held in the Sicilian city of Marsala, landing of the "Spedizione dei Mille". This was an expedition that happened during the Risorgimento period - a corps of volunteers led by Giuseppe Garibaldi (one of the "four fathers of the Nation") sailed from Quarto, near Genoa, and landed in Marsala on May 11, 1860. The project was an ambitious and risky venture aiming to conquer, with a thousand men, a kingdom with a larger regular army and a more powerful navy. It was a success, and the last territorial conquest needed for the creation of the Kingdom of Italy one year later.
