RUNNING IN THE DOLOMITES

When snow gives way to the colours of spring in the Ampezzo valley, skiers pass the baton to summer sports enthusiasts ready for an active holiday in spectacular mountain scenery. Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the province of Belluno, offers a full range of alpine sports with many fabulous hiking and biking itineraries at all levels difficulty, as well as climb&ride, tennis and horseback riding. But summer 2015, runners are the main protagonists as the Queen of the Dolomites turns into a Running Resort. The flagship project of Cortina's summer season greatly expands the offer dedicated to trail runners, with a wealth of running itineraries and tailored services, for a summer season "on the run". Cortina d'Ampezzo becomes the capital of trail running this Summer, bringing new proposals, running itineraries, and dedicated services to a rapidly growing running population. Cortina is a natural paradise for trail runners at all levels, and the new services aim to make the area even more accessible to visitors wishing to take advantage of the excellent running opportunities offered by the territory. A brand new running map outlines more than 475 kilometers of running routes across 18 itineraries at different length and difficulty, from easy runs suitable also for beginners to challenging routes with significant elevation gain. All immersed in a unique natural setting, framed by the Unesco World Natural Heritage Dolomites. In addition to detailed running maps and GPS tracks available online, visitors can also take advantage of organized training camps to prepare for races, as well as trail running hotels and mountain refuges with dedicated services for runners.

WHERE TO RUN IN PESCARA

Start from the Pescara harbor. Go towards Montesilvano, in the hotel area, and come back along the North riviera (seaside). This is a 18 kilometer distance. The sidewalks of the North seaside are very large and there are water fountains along the whole course. If you want to run more distance, cross the Ponte del Mare (Sea Bridge), reach Francavilla al Mare (Alento river) and run back to the harbor of Pescara. These are 13 additional kilometers. The sidewalks of the South seaside are narrower, but here too there are water fountains along the course.

RUNNING SHOES REVIEW

NIKE LUNAR TEMPO - The Lunar series has spanned a range of characteristics from stability to performance. The Lunar Tempo is a new shoe to the line which realizes some of the potential which was previously underserved. The upper is an engineered mesh, called Flymesh, in keeping with its function, the lacing utilizing Flywire loops that wrap the foot for security. Printed logos, little structure to the heel, and no overlays, make the shoe very slipper-like, and impressively comes in at racer weight. The midsole is the proven Lunar setup, providing responsive cushioning from the Lunarlon, enhanced by the EVA Strobel board and polyurethane insole. The outersole is thin carbon rubber spread over portions of the forefoot and in the heel, just enough for durability without adding extra weight. The end product is a very light shoe that is perfect for races, speedwork, and even tempo runs or those days you feel like running fast.

Testers: "Racer-like fit, snug and close. Pretty stable feel, with a firm ride. It is as fast as you are (maybe faster)."

Sizes: Men 6-15; Women 5-12
Weight: 7.3 oz. (men's size 11); 6.1 oz. (women's size 8)
Shape: semicurved
Construction: Strobel slip-lasted, EVA Strobel board
Recommended for: medium- to high-arched feet with neutral biomechanics to very mild overpronation
