IN ITALY WE RUN LIKE THIS

For the town of Impruneta the art of terracotta is both an important heritage and a critical element of its cultural identity. It is then not a case that, at running events in this area, participants can win medals, plaques, and vases made in terracotta. Since 1308, the success of the "cotto" in this area is primarily due to the presence of a particular kind of clay, the abundance of woods that once provided the combustible for the furnaces, and the favourable geographical position of Impruneta, which is situated on the road network which links Firenze, Arezzo and Siena.

RUNNING SHOES REVIEW

361° SPIRE 2 - The update to the 361° Spire retains the strengths, with an eye to making improvements to all aspects of the shoe. The upper sticks with the quality stretch mesh, while upgrading the traditional overlays with well executed welded support. Internal structure now supports the midfoot while reducing a bit of weight, and a light, stitched counter replaces the thermoplastic heel support from round one. The very effective Qu!kFoam midsole with its firm but bouncy ride is unchanged, good news to fans of the original. The outersole continues with carbon rubber in the heel, a blown rubber perimeter through the forefoot, with the lateral side layered with Qu!kfoam for a softer feel. A thermoplastic shank provides torsional support. Round two adds polish to a shoe with a ride as its strong point, taking it up a few notches in quality and performance. Updates the Spire.

Testers: "I enjoyed the original but was more than a bit impressed by round 2. Cushy ride that is great to run in, and the fit and durability make it a great mileage shoe."
